This Holiday, Share the Joys of Storytelling November 28th, 2011 / Comments: 0 It is that time of year when friends and family gather around the table to share stories and traditions. These precious moments are few and far between these days. But it is the stories that each person walks away with. You may remember a show that you watched, a game you played or a good play during a football game but it is the conversation and the stories that bring people together. I remember my grandmother always liked to tell the story of her well-known and respected uncle in San Francisco. Her face would light up as she described the fancy outfits that she would pack which included several pairs of white gloves and beautiful hats. She would look up at the ceiling as if the memory was playing out in the sky when she’d recall the times when she would walk with her uncle around Fisherman’s Wharf and receive smiles and special treatment from those who knew her uncle. I loved hearing the story every year. Even though she was unable to visit me during the 7 years that I lived there, she loved to tell this story because this was San Francisco as she remembered it. My only wish is that I would have captured her story telling on camera. Now that she has passed, the details of her infamous story are beginning to fade away. We do our best to collectively recall the parts of her story but it is not the same. We don’t have video of her vacations to San Francisco but we could have had video of her sharing the story in her own words. This holiday, consider bringing your video camera, a phone or even starting up your webcam on your laptop and asking each person to share a special memory. Other questions can be favorite traditions, funniest holiday memory, etc. Capture the storytellers in your life! What Does Mommy Do All Day? Reminder: share your “three words” on our Facebook page for your chance to win an HD WebCam before the holidays.
