The evolution of sharing meets online video

As individuals, it is those defining moments that make us who we are, that help shape who we will be and the company that we keep. Lucky for us it is so easy to capture those moments given that capture devices are easier to use and affordable, and that smartphones are getting smarter. Stephen Shankland of CNet recently wrote an article that stated, “cameras need networking – pronto.” The idea is that the way we share photos has changed photography, as we know it. In the article, Ed Lee, an analyst with InfoTrends said this, “Smartphones allow people to capture an image and share it with an online site or a social network. You’re allowing your friends and family to be in the moment with you as the event is still going on,” Lee said. Today, people share pictures as the event is happening, inviting others to share in that moment while it is fresh.  The underlying shift that we are experiencing is the socialization of content or in human terms, sharing meaningful memories quickly and in a way that others can enjoy. The socialization of content is quickly changing not only the way we share but also the expectations of those we share with. Video is the obvious next piece in the sharing evolution. What if sharing video was as easy as capturing? What if video could be shared at a similar pace as photos? This is an area that we are working to master, an area that our entire team is passionate about and something that we deliver today. It’s an exciting time to be part of this shift in how content is shared. We have some very exciting updates coming and some new applications that are making it easier than ever to share your videos. Check out our video app for Facebook and see how easy it is to upload, edit and share. Or try something new and open a social VideoAlbum where others can add videos to an album that you create. Let us know how it goes. FYI: Today is the final day of our video contest on Facebook. (Hopefully Facebook won’t be down for much longer today) To enter, simply add a video, to our Facebook VideoAlbum for your chance to win a Kodak Zi8 Pocket Video Camera.
