Show Off Old (High School) Videos on Facebook

video editing, preserve your memories, high school reunion video, old high school videos, old videosI recently attended my 20 year high school reunion (let’s quietly forget the fact that it’s been 20 years) and if it weren’t for my old yearbook, I am not sure I would have recognized half the people I saw. It is so funny how things have changed. The reunion itself had a very low turnout and I realized that maybe Facebook had something to do with it. Even we who had graduated from high school 20 years ago were all about Facebook. I heard, again and again, “Oh yeah, we’re friends on Facebook. So I have seen pictures of her kids.” Remarkable. But still, it was fun meeting all those familiar and semi-familiar faces from so many years ago, and learning about how they’ve changed. We’ve all been through so much without each other — college, careers, marriages, kids — and it was obvious that we had all changed a great deal. It was refreshing to see that not everyone ends up the way you had imagined when you were a teenager. Throughout the night, people were pulling out old pictures and many of them surfaced that week on Facebook. What I didn’t see were old videos from high school. Even when I was in high school, I always had some kind of video camera and of course was asked if I still had those old videos that I shot years ago. They were all so obviously excited to see them, to reminisce, to laugh. In the past, we would have had people over to watch them on the old VHS player but now I can resurrect those memories and share them on Facebook, as easily as I would share photos (yes, with Pixorial). That really takes “going back” to a whole new level. While a picture may capture a moment frozen in time, a video brings that moment back to life, with laughter, music, and conversation. I have so many hilarious videos that are sure to shock my old buddies, many of whom now have high school kids of their own. Can you imagine watching 20 year old videos with your teenage kids? Oh the temptation. Perhaps I’ll just share them via email to hide that unfortunate mo-hawk, big bangs and parachute pants and let them decide whether or not they want to post on Facebook. Or they can simply edit out the parts they don’t want. Options and times have changed but that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t share those old memories, because the fact is, those memories aren’t just mine. So the big lesson? Don’t forget to convert your high school videos before they disappear. Those were good times, and let’s live them again for a few minutes together before going on with our busy day. Start today!
