Pixorial Recognized as 2010 Laureate and Finalist by the Computerworld Honors Program June 14th, 2010 The Computerworld Honors Program has recognized Pixorial, the first online video platform of its kind, as a Laureate and finalist in the new media category. The company was awarded the honor based on the case study: Pixorial and Hitachi Data Systems collaborate on high-density storage performance for versatile, cost efficient growth of a world-class video platform. This year’s Honorees were commemorated during the 22nd Annual Laureates Medal Ceremony & Gala Awards Evening on June 7, 2010 at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C. For over two decades, Computerworld Honors has acknowledged those individuals and organizations that have used information technology to benefit society. “We are honored to be recognized as a Laureate and finalist by Computerworld for our online video service,” said Andrés Espiñeira — Co-Founder and President of Pixorial. “Our mission is to liberate the world’s video. To accomplish this, we must make it easy for anyone to upload, share and organize their videos. Working with Hitachi we were able to architect a very versatile storage environment able to support exponential growth.” Pixorial is the only company currently providing this type of service, and therefore required the maximum amount of flexibility, density and capacity from their storage solution. Pixorial adopted the Hitachi Adaptable Modular Storage 2500 and a cluster of Hitachi NAS, powered by BlueArc®, to make it possible for Pixorial to address intense scalability, I/O performance and disk utilization conditions. Each year, members of the Chairmen’s Committee, a group of 100 Chairman/CEOs of global technology companies, nominate individuals and organizations around the world whose visionary applications of information technology promote positive social and economic progress. Independent of the Laureate recognition, the Computerworld Honors Program also annually presents its Leadership Awards, each designed to honor the extraordinary achievements of selected individuals whose positive contributions to the IT revolution have left an indelible mark on the world. “Each Laureate and Winner/Finalist selected for this honor understands the importance of using one’s resources and technical prowess to benefit one’s fellow man,” said Bob Carrigan, chairman of the Computerworld Honors Program Chairmen’s Committee and CEO of IDG Communications Worldwide. “Each year, the Computerworld Honors Program seeks to recognize organizations from a variety of sectors for their ongoing efforts to utilize technology in order to befit society and we are proud to provide a platform to publicly acknowledge these contributions.”
