How to Pick the Right Soundtrack for Your Videos

music video soundtrackMusic has a tremendous impact on the way you interpret the things you see. This happens without you even realizing it, like when you’re driving through an unfamiliar area. If you’ve got a dark, sad song playing on the radio, you’ll be drawn to the bleaker details of the scenery – the run-down buildings and dirty streets. On the other hand, a bright and happy song will give those visuals a positive spin; the children playing, the peaceful clouds in the sky, and so-on. The bottom line? Powerful visuals + the right music = cinematic awesomeness. To master this equation, answer these three simple questions: What am I trying to say? Sometimes you won’t need to think hard for the answer. If it’s a 4-year old’s birthday party, the soundtrack probably won’t be a dark and brooding track. But not all of life’s moments are so emotionally obvious.  Dig through a wide range of styles – rock, ambient, etc. – that evoke different moods. Watch as the look and feel of the video changes with the music. As a general rule, the more time you spend with music selection, the better results you’ll get. Don’t immediately settle for the first song you come across that fits the video; experiment and see if there’s an even better fit. How much original sound should I use? The volume slider in our editor makes it easy to balance the audio between your video and the soundtrack. This is a good opportunity to get creative. For a music-video feel, opt for full-soundtrack audio. This is also a good option if the original sound is poorly recorded or full of distractions like the wind blowing in an outdoor video. If you’d like the set the mood in a subtle way, add just a touch of the soundtrack. Who’s my intended audience?
