First, I want to personally reassure everyone affected that the Pixorial team will work relentlessly to fulfill the trust you’ve placed in us. We ask you for patience as we juggle all the moving parts in this transition, but rest assured Pixorial will honor its obligations.

Second, for those of you interested in gaining a better perspective on our decision, here’s some additional background.

I started Pixorial with the mission of liberating all the memories locked away in your videos — to connect people with personal videos from their life experiences, videos that are currently scattered across different media, services, devices and even people.

The company initially performed media transfer services which led to development of our media sharing platform. As we built more and more applications, we quickly evolved into a pure software company. Through the hard work of our outstanding team, we have been honored with major awards including Computerworld Honors Laureate and finalist in the media category in 2010, and winner of the Colorado Technology Association 2012 Apex Award for Project of the year for our work as a Google Drive Launch Partner.

Over the past seven months we have had a dramatic increase in customer growth fueled in part by continued adoption of cloud services and also by a fundamental transformation in how we attracted and engaged our customers. We’ve been seeing the best results in the company’s history. At the same time, I came to the realization that the best thing we could do to ensure Pixorial’s future was to leverage these great metrics and look for a buyer who could invest in our continued growth.

They say that this process is like “kissing frogs”; sometimes you need to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince. So we approached numerous companies about acquiring Pixorial or making a strategic investment. We were very encouraged by the high number of interested parties and their positive reviews of the strong, comprehensive platform we’ve built. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, the options that would best ensure Pixorial’s continued service have not come to fruition. Although we haven’t quite given up on finding that perfect frog, I’ve now shifted the focus of my team to ensure a smooth transition for all our customers and at the same time honor our commitments.

Lastly, I want to thank everyone who has believed in Pixorial and supported us all these years. And I want to express my deepest gratitude to the Pixorial team; I simply cannot say enough about how great you are. Thank you for giving it your best!

Making this decision was extremely difficult for our team because Pixorial has over 636,000 users, 2.7 million minutes of video and countless photos, and we know that this media represents your most meaningful moments.

Earlier this year, Pixorial initiated discussions with numerous companies about an acquisition or other strategic transaction to ensure Pixorial’s mission could continue.  We were very pleased to find a high number of interested parties and hear very positive reviews about the completeness and strength of the platform we’ve built. Unfortunately, we did not receive an offer reasonable enough to ensure the continued operation of Pixorial’s service.

Our highest priority has always been enabling you to preserve and share your most important photo and video memories, so the Pixorial service will be available through July 18, 2014 to give you sufficient time to download all your media or transfer it to another cloud storage site. We will strive to make this process as easy as possible for you, our loyal customers.

If you are a paid subscriber, please be reassured that we have stopped all monthly and yearly auto-renewals, and prorated refunds on annual subscriptions will be issued; watch for a separate notification to be sent soon.

Pixorial is currently in discussions with a potential acquirer who we believe can incorporate the best aspects of Pixorial as part of a much larger service.  This possibility is bittersweet – while we deeply regret that we are unable to continue the Pixorial service as we had envisioned, we are happy about the potential of having a greater impact with our technology.

We truly appreciate the amazing support you have given us over the years. It has been extremely rewarding to hear all the ways Pixorial made it possible for you to share your photo and video memories with family and friends.

If you are using one of our mobile apps, any media you captured on that device will be accessible in the camera roll. When Pixorial shuts down on July 18th, you will no longer be able to see your personal media that is stored on the pixorial.com servers from within the mobile apps.

How do I download my media?
When you log in to your Pixorial account, you will see the email letter we sent to all users and a link to automatically create a “zip” file of all of the media in your library. A link to the zip file will be emailed to you. Additional instructions to download your media from pixorial.com servers are available in the Downloading Media section of our Help Center.

What happens to my media if I don’t download it?
If you don’t do anything, Pixorial will delete all of your media on July 19th after the service is shut down. Under no circumstances will any of your media be sold to another party or transferred without your consent.

How do I log into my account?
Your username should be the same as the email address to which we sent a Shutdown Notification message. If you are having trouble logging in, please review the article in our Help Center.

Why can’t I create a new account?
New signups are closed. Although new users have been signing up at a rate of 1,500 per day, we thought it would be best to disable all new signups since we know that the service is going to end. Therefore, effective June 17th, Pixorial has:

• Disabled new signups to the service
• Removed our Chrome app from the Google Chromestore
• Removed our Android app for mobile, tablet and GoogleTV from Google Play
• Removed our iOS app for mobile, tablets, and AirPlay from the App Store

What if I have published content from my library to social media or other sites?
We are actively working on ensuring that links to photos or videos shared through other social networks will remain available and providing users with a way to redirect those URLs so there are no broken links. We will have more details on these efforts in the near future.
